The Book of Lost Things

剛不是還在說這本書拿起來就放不下了嗎?寫完那篇帖子就一頭栽進書里面,一口氣看完,不好好寫些什么會覺得很對不起它 😛

The protagonist of the book is a young boy named David. However, I do think this book is suited for one who is no longer a boy (or girl). The story is one filled with mythical creatures and magical spells, but not one where princes and princesses live happily ever after, or where the brave always triumphs over evil. Much like our world, the magical kingdom is filled with deceit and greed, where bad things happen to good people, and however angry and bitter, one must accept the order as they are. Yet like our world, there is always hope. A few things you can always cherish, a few people you can always depend on, and where mistakes can be forgiven, and wrongdoings partially remedied, if not in whole.

To lose something, means that at one point it was in your life, and gave you joy, so much that it pains you to find it missing from your life. That in itself is worth smiling about. Even if everything else was lost, at least the memories remain, for else there would be nothing to miss. Some say it is better to not even have the memories of something that existed, if there is no chance of having it back. Is that really so? For I am only me because of all the things I experienced and remember. The lessons taught to me as a child in a classroom, the lessons I learned myself as I fumbled ungracefully through life, the lessons from a casual encounter with a stranger, However simple the concept may be, it’s easy to forget. It’s easy to forget how special we are, when the world around us doesn’t treat us so. That’s when we dwell on the things we’ve lost, to think of them as things that will never be there again, rather than things that we were fortunate to have to begin with. (That, btw, is a refresher from a former stripper in a pole dancing class :P)

So here’s to all the things I’ve loved and lost, and the smile that they bring every time I find them in my memories again.
