018 | Flora :: Lake Wanaka, New Zealand, 2012

I almost forgot about the Wanaka Tree. I wish I could say it was my idea to climb the tree, but it wasn’t. A few of us were on a walk around the lake and stopped by a swing set. As the rest of us monkeyed around the tree on shore, Manon decided that she would climb the tree in the lake instead. She succeeded, and I followed.

At the time I did not realize how famous this tree was. Now, I’ve seen one after another gorgeous photo of this tree, and feel quite guilty to have climbed it.

But then again, people call it the lonely tree. Perhaps, it didn’t mind having company for once?
