232 | Sky :: Copenhagen, Denmark, 2014

The Church of Our Saviour is an iconic sight in Denmark, with its spiral tower rising over the mostly residential neighborhood the building sits. There are 400 steps to the top, and the staircase gets narrower and darker the higher up you go. Then just when you start to wonder how skinny you have to be to get to the top, you see a tiny wooden door that leads to the outside, and the brilliant blue sky awaits.

The serpentine staircase keeps spiraling even after you go outside, and along the way you get a wonderful 360 view of the city. But it was still that moment of seeing the open door that remains most memorable. The excitement of almost reaching my goal and the anticipation of what lies beyond that door is already worth the journey.
