237 | Doors :: Shanghai, China, 2013

I just have a thing for doors. You can just let your imagination run wild when you come up on a door. What’s on the other side? Who lives here? Where does it lead to? Then there are the little surprises, maybe the door will open unexpectedly. Maybe there’s a tiny window that invites you to peek inside. Maybe there’s an ancient lock on it and you have to wonder how old is that sigil and what is means.

Then there are the quirky doors like this one. Why is it red? What’s up with the plant? What’s undefined? Who put it here? What does it mean when this drab building with its exposed pipes and ancient tiles that haven’t been cleaned in ages has such a brightly colored door? Is it art? Is it a statement? Is it Christmas time?
