352 | We Were Strangers Once :: St. Petersburg, Russia, 2013

Sheila and I met at the hostel in St. Petersburg. I have to say Russian hostels seem to be less friendly than other countries. As two Americans, we hit it off pretty quickly, and agreed to be companions during our remaining time in the city. She took some of my favorite photos frolicking in the leaves, and we ate at this restaurant so delicious we actually went back twice for dinner.

Sheila was doing her Ph.D. in psychology, but her hobby is the Cold War. She loves everything about the war, and was on a trip hitting all the Cold War countries on the Trans-Siberian Express. She had such an upbeat personality and passion for the things she loves, I felt more inspired about life myself.

We recently just missed each other on our trips to Ireland. She was there a few days before me, and got engaged in front of Buda Castle a few days later. This is kind of why I love Facebook. Even though there are people whom I may not be in constant contact with, it’s great to still follow their lives and see their happiness from afar, and slip in a congratulations here and there to let them know I care.
