Life is suffering — and yet

Sometimes words just hit me. They are usually unembellished, short enough to be skipped over for a skimming reader like me. Then I move my eyes back over, and find the words so heavy with profundity that I must read the them aloud in my head, one word at a time. Later I will forget the context, forget the author, and sometimes the words themselves, but I will remember the incredible connection I felt.

Life is suffering — and yet.

This quote came from a NY Times article on marriage. The author first heard about it through a Buddhism class in college, and says she thinks about them all the time, “and yet.”

And yet. I can’t get over how simple and profound these two words are. Two conjunctions with a total of 6 letters. And yet.
