All That Glitters Does Not Shine

It seemed only natural to stop in Vegas on our cross country trip. I vaguely remember my first trip to Vegas, how impressed I was with the bright lights and flashy sculptures. This time, I didn’t even have an inkling of desire to walk down the strip. I begrudgingly agreed to do so anyway, and as I walked into the Cosmopolitan shopping center, I stopped and began my irate rant, which went something like this:

Vegas is a culmination of everything I hate about America. The excess consumerism. The flashiness. The loudness. The nakedness. The superficiality and sense of superiority. People spending beyond their means and making reckless choices. The poorest of the poor and the richest of the rich. The poor people pretending to be rich and the rich people pretending to be richer. The entire strip is full of futile attempts at copycatting. And now, you can add to that the faded facade of a glorious past covering the old and outdated interior.

I no longer enjoy Vegas. Is this yet another sign of getting old?

I will admit that I still enjoy the Bellagio fountain show immensely though.
