092 | Faith :: Burning Man, 2015

Burning Man is all about finding the unexpected, and this was one such find. We were riding back from visiting a friend’s camp when the storm started, and soon we weren’t able to see anything at all. This ghostly structure appeared in the distance and we rode towards it, finding comfort in something that gave us a sense of direction. When we came close, I must say that seeing a stack of bodies gradually appearing in the middle of the desert was somewhat eerie. Yet when we finally arrived, I found the structure inviting. It reminded me of a church, even on the other side of the door is more of the same unknown you tried to escape from, it felt as though you crossed an invisible threshold to a different dimension. For faith serves for many as merely a reprieve from reality, and it matters less that the other side is just as confusing and harsh, as long as it was another side.
