I met Soraya and her then boyfriend on a day trip to the terrace farms in Guilin. She was young and vibrant, eager to learn about Chinese culture and found me to be an interesting intermediary whom she could pose otherwise sensitive questions. Our time together on that trip was short, but we kept in touch all these years, and I even stayed with her for a few days in Amsterdam, where she took me to all the local spots.
She had just started slack lining then, and had shown incredible talent. She met her new boyfriend, a young law student was was more interested in climbing mountains than the corporate ladder. They got better and better together, and I saw her blossom into a confident young lady, and saw their relationship grow into a strong and mature one.
Sometimes the people you thought would be in your life forever leave earlier than expected, but unexpected ones end up staying much longer 🙂
